GVW reduction to 2500 kg - legal, in Germany, with new Briefs
A full technical procedure and registration in Germany: new Briefs with a GVW of 2500 kg, an EU register entry and peace of mind at every roadside check. Since 1 July 2026 it is the simplest route to international transport without a tachograph.
GVW reduction to 2500 kg is a complete, legal technical and administrative procedure carried out in Germany, before the vehicle is brought into Poland. The result: a full set of new German registration documents (Briefs) with a GVW of 2500 kg, a new nameplate and an entry in the EU registers - documents recognised throughout the European Union.
Since 1 July 2026, vehicles of 2.5-3.5 t GVW used for international commercial transport must be fitted with a second-generation smart tachograph, and their drivers are subject to full driving-time and rest rules. A van with a GVW of up to 2500 kg stays outside these obligations - no tachograph, no Community licence, no forced breaks.

Why exactly 2500 kg?
In international commercial transport, the 2.5-tonne line makes a bigger difference today than ever before:

It is the right solution for carriers who do not use the payload of a 3.5 t van but pay its full price: licence, tachograph, working-time rules and forced breaks.

If your cargo is light, urgent and sensitive, and time, flexibility and driving without downtime matter, a GVW of 2500 kg is fully sufficient for:
- transport of medicines and pharmaceuticals,
- medical and biological materials,
- critical parts (automotive, AOG, industry),
- electronics and high-value components,
- time-critical / just-in-time shipments.
Roadside checks in the EU - stress-free
The vehicle appears in the systems as legally modified in Germany.
During a roadside check (police, road transport inspection, BAG in Germany and their counterparts across the EU):
- the vehicle data matches the register,
- the vehicle appears in the system as legally modified,
- the documents match the entries in the EU databases,
- there are no discrepancies between the documents and the system.
How the vehicle verification works
Not every vehicle qualifies for a legal GVW change - which is why we verify every case individually before we promise anything. For the initial check, prepare:
- photos of the vehicle: front, rear and cargo area,
- the VIN number,
- a photo of the nameplate.

Can the GVW be reduced on a used vehicle?
Yes - we carry out the procedure for both new and used vehicles. What matters is the technical qualification of your exact vehicle, which is why we first ask for photos (front, rear, cargo area), the VIN number and a photo of the nameplate.
Does the vehicle have to come from Germany?
No. We reduce the GVW of vehicles purchased in any EU country - the procedure and registration take place in Germany, before the vehicle is brought into Poland. If your vehicle is already registered in Poland, describe your case and we will suggest a possible route.
